The Dos and Don’ts when holding virtual events
Whilst we know most people prefer face to face interaction & will welcome it back with open arms as soon as we can, there can be no doubt that if COVID-19 was the villain of 2020, virtual replacements have been the saviour of 2020.
For those of us that have attend virtual events, we know that some hit the spot & others leave us awkwardly sneaking off to do more productive things. The positive news is that we are now a year into virtual events that road and have seen more than enough examples to give some top tips!
Things that you should do…
- Live content – Yes pre-recorded content is much easier to control, but it eliminates the possibility of engagement. Use as little as possible and focus on live content as much possible. It keeps people involved and feeling less like you are watching YouTube.
- Send reminders on the day – Organisers often drum up publicity for their event in the weeks leading up, but often forget to send a reminder on the day. Virtual events need much less commitment than their physical equivalent; people can decide to attend with a few hours to spare, so be sure to remind them.
- Know your goals – Make sure you understand what a good event is for you, consider attendance, downloads & interaction.
Things that you should not do…
- Have a lengthy registration form – Audiences shouldn’t have to go through multiple questions in the sign-up phase. Quick & concise is all you need.
- Time differences – Most events have international delegates, so make sure you are clear of your time zone to avoid any problems.
