Marshals for Summer Events
Warm summer nights, a good film and good company – what could be better? Add in a wonderful, mesmerising location and you are guaranteed a perfect evening out. It’s no surprize that Luna Outdoor Cinema has become one of the most popular outdoor events every summer and autumn, providing the biggest range of sites in the UK.
We have worked with Luna Cinema for the last five years, including throughout Covid, which caused lots of extra challenges. In 2022, it was nice to get back to some type of normality, and the outdoor cinema events proved even more popular than ever.
No two events are ever the same. Some sites offer American style drive in screenings, or long rows of cinema style seating while yet others provide a more relaxed opportunity to picnic under the stars and watch a film. The range of films on offer is extensive, providing something for every taste. There are feel good movies, blockbusters, classics and musicals.
Wherever you are in the country, Luna provides outdoor screenings at some of the best locations possible. These have included Ascot Racecourse, the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich, Hyde Park London, Kensington Palace, the elegant surroundings of Chatsworth House in Derbyshire, Bluewater retail park in Essex, even Westminster Abbey, Longleat, Sandringham and totally unique splendour of the Royal Crescent in Bath. The Luna Cinema has even appeared on the coast – imagine watching a film as the night sky darkens and stars come out, while sitting on the beach with waves gently lapping at the water’s edge.
A lot of work is needed to make sure that every cinema screening provides the perfect visitor experience. Behind the scenes, people have been busy booking films, arranging viewing permits, distribution rights, organising a site, and facilities such as toilets, car parking and food trucks. Then there are all the additional staff that need to be booked – marshals, stewards, customer care staff, car parking attendants, people to set up the screens (and take them down afterwards), security staff, promotional staff and of course, people to clean up afterwards making sure that the site is returned to its owners in a pristine condition.

Car Parking Staff
The need for professional car parking services is even more crucial when drive in movies are being held. Everyone wants to get the best position, with a good view of the screen. Badly parked cars can cause all kinds of problems especially when it comes to safety or blocking other people’s views. A further hazard is British weather – a sudden rainstorm can quickly turn a field into a quagmire, bogging down cars and creating slippery hazards.
This is where our professional marshals really come into their own. They know how to cope with every type of situation, dealing with badly parked drivers courteously and efficiently. They direct traffic, make sure that everyone is parked safely, maximising available space, organise entrance and exit points, ensuring that VIP and disabled areas are clearly marked, checking people and vehicles in and out of the car parks. They even come prepared to deal with unexpected hazards – giving a push start to cars reluctant to start, or putting down hay to provide a grip for tyres in wet weather.
There’s time to relax a little while the film is showing – and a chance to watch it themselves.
As the closing credits roll, our staff immediately move into action supervising vehicles leaving the car parks, making sure they join the main roads safely and avoiding any congestion. When the final cars leave, and the lights dim, our staff finally head for home knowing they have excelled themselves as always.
