‘Above Par’ – Delivering Exceptional Customer Services at the British Masters Open in Southport
At the start of May 2019, the British Masters Open European Tour 2019 arrived in Southport. Along with thousands of golf fans, Envisage Promotion staff were on hand to meet and greet the crowds to make everyone feel welcome and part of the event.
The British Master Open
The British Master Open, founded in 1946 was then known as the Dunlop Master. In 2008, there was a significant change in sponsorship and since then, as sponsors changed the name has changed too. This year, online gambling giant Betfred was just one major sponsor.
The European Tour of the golfing world boasts many accolades but none bigger than the first live hole in one broadcast on TV, sunk by Tony Jacklin at the 16th hole at Royal St George in 1967.
Today, with a £3 million prize, and local homegrown talent taking centre stage, it was no wonder thousands of golfing fans flocked to Southport. And our team was there to meet and greet them.
The Southport Event Team Brief
Essentially, our event staff were to play the role of onsite customer service representatives with an approachable and personable attitude. Working with the brief given by our client the Envisage Promotions team at British Master Open in Southport were to;
- Sell tickets for the event
- Deal confidently with ticket related enquiries
- Scan tickets at entrance points
- Offer assistance throughout the event
There were specific organisational points that our staff had to respond to. For example, all staff were expected on site at 6.30am simply because the legion of golfing fans turn up very early to grab the best spots on the course.
Likewise, the client asked for promotional staff who were experienced in customer service with all the necessary skills that are needed to deal with the public, and in a crowd situation too. Friendly, personable, approachable and extremely well presented, we knew we have the promotional staff who could rise to the challenge.
The Sports Event Outcome
Working outside for the whole day, high energy, constantly dealing with enquiries – promotional staff work hard and this was no exception. We are always proud of what our promotional staff teams achieve and our client also saw the difference that opting for an experienced and knowledgeable customer service team can make.
The British Master Open attracts thousands of visitors over the four-day event. 2017 was a bumper year with 60,000 people watching the winner Paul Dunne take the crown at the 72nd hole. And 2019 was no different. With crowds in excess of 50,000, our customer service team delivered with aplomb!
With golfing fans happy with the support from customer service personnel and helpful officials, the client is happy. Who knows, maybe you’ll see us at The Close for the Betfred British Master Open in 2020…?
