Ready to (Street) Party?

With the new King’s Coronation only a matter of weeks away, the UK is gearing up for a long weekend of celebrations and what could be more quintessentially British than a street party? Bunting, sandwiches, a Victoria sponge or two and sausage rolls all accompanied by a proper cup of tea! They’re a great way to celebrate a historic event and strengthen ties in your local community.

Have You Planned For Your Road Closure?

Whether it’s a small gathering of friends and family in your back garden to a large-scale neighbourhood party, planning is key regardless of the size of your event. If your event requires road closures, you would have had to apply to your local council for permission at least six weeks in advance. In addition, you will need to delegate or ask volunteers to help manage the road closure that will be set up by your council – or alternatively you could hire some marshals to man the closure point for you so no one has to miss out on the party!

Nothing’s Been Organised – Can We Still Hold A Street Party?

If you have left it to last minute – don’t worry, you can still organize a more informal ‘Street Meet’! This is a gathering residents can have on their own private land, for example a driveway, parking area, or front garden. If you live on a cul-de-sac, you could also use communal areas such as a wide pavement or grass verge. As long as all the residents have been informed and happy (and the public highway is unaffected) you can celebrate the Coronation too!
